Matsuri Isn't That Bad Stamp

Screenshot is from the Naruto Shippuden series. Some fans are hating on Matsuri for a stupid reason-- correction; stupid, superficial reasons. What did Matsuri exactly do to deserve such infamy?

She's an annoying fangirl!
How is she annoying? She's hardly in the series, less than Moegi. Matsuri doesn't say anything excessively like, "Oh, Lord Gaara! I love you, Lord Gaara! Be mine!! Lord Gaara!!!x100" *coughcoughlikekarinwithsasukecoughcough* Try Karin from said show. I'm not quite certian what the fanbase is expecting at this point. She happens to care about Gaara unlike most of his villagers back when he was 13 years old. Don't forget (even if it was a filler episode), Matsuri CHOSE to be trained under Gaara when other students went for Kankuro or Temari. She wasn't all obsessive over Gaara then, but she had moderate admiration for him. Even though Gaara doesn't show the same feelings, I can guarantee he doesn't hate Matsuri, she's done NOTHING to him to earn any hatred. FYI she's mature, actually. More mature than you fangirls who get jealous over fictional characters like they're real.
If you call youselves Gaara-fans, then let the guy have a companion! He really needs it. Otherwise, you apparently want Gaara to have more reasons to be morbidly depressed, lonely and suicidal.
She admires the "elite" and the strong type of guys!
If that's the case, Sakura and Karin should be loathed because they like the "strong, cool and handsome" type. >:/ Perhaps it's one of her favorite features of Gaara. Just because someone likes a strong person of high status that automatically makes them worthy of contempt? I'M PRETTY SURE EVERYONE LIKES GAARA. INCLUDING THE GUYS. When she first met Gaara (yes, a filler reference, but STFU about it for now), she just met him; she wasn't all over him but you could see that her liking toward him piqued. As the years progressed, it grew into something more deeper. And even if Matsuri crushes on him, Gaara has character and ideals which is more reason to admire him. Don't tell me you haven't had a crush on someone like that!
Matsuri is Gaara's student/Gaara is her mentor!
Oh my god, just stop it! How does this validate them from becoming a possible pairing? Sure, Gaara is to teach Matsuri and Matsuri is to follow Gaara's tutelage, but they're practically the same age! Titles don't mean anything, it doesn't state that at some point after a period of time that they cannot become a couple.
She protested against orders of Suna just to save Gaara when he was taken by the Akatsuki!
This is an issue how??? Um, for the record, if being self-sacrificing enough to go against orders to save someone precious to them is a valid reason to hate a character, then Naruto is the most despicable character in the whole series (since he went against orders countless times). She protested against orders because she cares about Gaara and wishes to bring him home alive! She may not have went through with it, but it was the thought that counted. Wouldn't you want to do the same thing for someone close to you? If that's so bad, go suck an egg!
She's a filler character!
You're a fool for thinking that. She appeared in the manga series whether or not you like it, so she's NOT a filler character. Matsuri's NOT a major character but she's NOT filler character, she's a MINOR character! It's Kishimoto's story, Matsuri is one of his characters, he made it that way. Get over it. Go back and read the manga!
Gaara belongs with me/<insert canon character or OC here>!!
You're welcome to pair up to whatever pairings you like, even if it is a crack pairing. Fangirls, you're allowed to make an OC and ship them with Gaara or (your favorite canon character's name here). But say If (hypothetically) Gaara ever ended up with Matsuri, it's canon and there's nothing you can do to change that. If you have a problem with Matsuri crushing on Gaara, take it up with Mr. Masashi Kishimoto. FYI, for the "me" part, Gaara will never love you. At. All. He's a fictional character! Even if he does, he won't tolerate anybody hating on his student. I'm sure if (not counting the filler episodes) Matsuri was in danger, he'd rescue her at a drop of a hat. Gaara only belongs to Masashi Kishimoto, nobody else but him. Gaara doesn't exist. Get a real boyfriend! Hating a character that gets in the way of your crush/pairing ISN'T a good reason, a'ight?

From where I'm standing, the only thing the Matsuri haters are intimidated about said character is that Matsuri is more canon than the next self-insert Mary Sue fan character who is a fangirl of Gaara's will ever be.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against GaaraXOC crack pairings, just the creators who ship their own OCs with a canon character like Gaara but then bash another rivaling canon character like Matsuri. You're allowed to create and pair your OC with <insert canon character's name here> without Matsuri (or some other rivaling canon character) being dead for getting in the way with your fan ship/pairing!

To point out; you can like what you want, but you have no control over what a character in a TV show does, because they are at the mercy of the people who make the show and the creator.
